A Living Social coupon led us to Little Mesters, Kelham Island in Sheffield for Sunday dinner.
Lovely starters, I had mushroom bruschetta, his nibs had the spicy parsnip soup.
Yorkshire puds with onion gravy came as an inter-course extra…
On to the mains – I went with the vegetarian option, fig tartin with all the extras, his nibs had the roast pork.
This was a bistro-style meal so we’d expected tiny portions but these were a perfect size, tasty and not over-filling. Very good.
A Dealmonster deal took us to Green City Coffee on Sheffield’s industrial historical Kelham Island for brunch.
Despite the historic surroundings, this cafe is in a modern building, but creates it’s own character.
My companion and I both had the full English – his with meat, mine the vegetarian version. Both were substantial and tasty, complemented with a lovely pot of tea for two. Recommended.
Groupon led us to Efes on Glossop Rd in Sheffield for Meze.
This was the perfect meal for me, lots of dishes to pick at, lots of slop and lots of warm fresh bread to dip. Perfect.
Out for a meal at 7 Spices Balti, West Bar, Sheffield. Excellent food and service and the onion bhajis and samosas served from a sizzling pan brought to the table were great.
I cannot praise this restaurant enough. If you see a coupon on one of the discount sites, grab it with both hands!
We went to Zanzibar this evening, an African/Caribbean restaurant.
I’ve had a Living Social coupon for this for some time but is was always impossible to get a reservation. We finally managed to book this about a month ago.
Starters were so-so. I had a soup, his-nibs had garlic toast and a tiny salad.
For main course, I had Vegetarian Curry whilst he had Jerk Chicken. Along with two small bowls of rice – one called rice and peas but was, in fact, rice and kidney beans.
The curry can only be described as a bowl of mashed potatoes with no taste and the chicken was mostly bones and not very flavoured.
A disappointment and we won’t be returning.
A night away in the Lake District and breakfast the following morning at The Mill Inn in Mungrisdale.
As a vegetarian, I feel we are often forgotten at hotel breakfast-time. Often it’s two beans and a mushroom. We like LOTS of food, just not the ‘meaty’ bits. So this was mine….I had to fill up on toast.
His Nibs was delighted with his breakfast that included bacon, black pudding and a Cumberland Ring sausage.
The Seafarers in St. Annes is a great fish and chip shop and attached restaurant. They offer many meal deal coupons through the Deal sites, so worth looking for.
As a vegetarian I don’t have fish, so they offered a Cheese and Onion pie as a replacement. I didn’t eat the gravy as you can never be sure it’s animal-free (I should have asked for curry sauce), so His Nibs let me have his mushy peas….. Two portions of peas, dodgy move…… 🙂
